THE Super Eagles will go to the top of their Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifying group if they defeat Liberia on Friday.

The 2013 African champions welcome the Lone Star to the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos in the two sides’ opening match of the campaign.

The winners of the clash in Lagos will head to the summit of Group C with three points following the result of the group’s first fixture on Wednesday.

Central African Republic, hosting Cape Verde in Douala, Cameroon because they have no suitable grounds of their own, had to fight back to secure a 1-1 draw with the visitors.
Cape Verde took a first-half lead but Central African Republic drew level early in the second half.

Saudi Arabia-based 32-year-old striker Julio Tavares shot Cape Verde into the lead in the 36th minute as they sought to begin the campaign with all three points.

Central African Republic drew level eight minutes into the second half through midfielder Tresor Toropite as both sides shared the points.

Cape Verde and Central African Republic thus have one point each as they await the Nigeria versus Liberia clash.

After hosting Liberia on Friday, the Super Eagles are due to fly into Cape Verde for their matchday two fixture, while Liberia host Central African Republic.
