THREE clubs have confirmed their promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League from the Nigeria National League following playoffs success.

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Gombe United and Niger Tornadoes all regained their top-flight status on Saturday.

The headline acts were 3SC, the Ibadan side considered as one of Nigeria’s truly great clubs.

They have been going back and forth between the two divisions in the past few seasons, and they sealed yet another return to the NPFL in Enugu on Saturday.

The Oluyole Warriors, who were top of the Southern Conference of the NNL during the regular season, carried their form into the play-offs.

After winning their first matchh and drawing the second, Shooting Stars topped it off with a 6-0 spanking of Ekiti United on Saturday to seal their promotion back to the NPFL.

Gombe United and Niger Tornadoes, who were also in the top division before their relegation to the NNL, emerged as the top teams from the Northern playoffs to earn their return to the NPFL.

The one promotion spot remaining from the Southern playoffs will be decided on Sunday.

The match between Remo Stars and Bendel Insurance was supposed to end the playoffs on Saturday and decide who joins 3SC in the NPFL, but controversy over the choice of referees for the decider caused chaos and prevented the match from being played.

It will now be played on Sunday.
