ABUBAKAR Ibrahim, the senior special assistant to the state government on social media, has debunked reports that the governor’s wife Hafsat Ganduje was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday.
Ibrahim today posted to Instagram pictures of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje and his wife alighting from an aircraft.
According to him, Ganduje and wife had travelled to Abuja for a meeting.
“Imagine, Fake News all over. The Governor travelled to Abuja for a meeting with his wife as usual and he’s already back today morning to preside the State Executive Council meeting, while Her Excellency is attending an empowerment program in the State too,” he wrote.
Earlier, a statement by the Commissioner for Information, Muhammad Garba, claimed the report of the arrest of Ganduje’z wife was “fake”.
Garba said she has not been arrested or detained and she is presently discharging her responsibilities.
The state’s position countered sources who confirmed Ganduje was at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja over alleged multimillion naira land fraud. She was interrogated for several hours and allowed to go home later in the evening.
Her son, Abdulazeez Ganduje, who has reportedly fled the country, filed a petition before the EFCC after his mother failed to refund the money paid to her to facilitate the purchase of a parcel of land in Kano.
The money, it was learnt, belonged to a property developer, who engaged Abdulazeez to procure the landed property.
The governor’s wife, it was learnt, is to return to the EFCC for further questioning at a later date.
