FORMER Super Eagles midfielder Mikel Obi is now without a club.

The 34-yead-old has been let go by Kuwaiti top-flight club Kuwait SC, it has been confirmed.

The club announced late on Thursday night that the former Nigeria captain’s contract had been cancelled.

“We announce the termination of the contract of Nigerian Mikel John Obi,” Kuwait SC wrote in a terse message on their Twitter account, without providing further explanation.

Mikel joined Kuwait SC as a free agent in July after leaving Stoke City.

His deal was meant to be for one year but it has been terminated after just four months.

He made only two appearances for Kuwait SC in the AFC Cup, playing a total of 129 minutes.

Mikel has become a bit of a journeyman in recent years after achieving great success at both club and international levels.

He won multiple Premier League titles and the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2012 with Chelsea, and played a pivotal role as the Super Eagles won the Africa Cup of Nations title in 2013, their first in 19 years.

He has also played in Norway, China and Turkey.
