WEST HAM became the first team to beat Liverpool this season in all competitions with a 3-2 victory at the London Stadium on Sunday.
An Alisson own goal and strikes from Pablo Fornals and Kurt Zouma earned West Ham the victory that moved them above Liverpool into third place in the Premier League.
Liverpool were looking to set a new club record of 26 league games unbeaten but they were undone by West Ham’s brilliant counter-attacking football.
Jurgen Klopp’s side fell behind in the fourth minute when Alisson, under pressure from Angelo Ogbonna, flapped at Fornals’ corner and helped the ball into his own net.
Liverpool were back level four minutes before half-time when Trent Alexander-Arnold curled home a superb strike after playing a short free-kick to Mohamed Salah.
West Ham did not let their heads drop after the equaliser, regaining the lead in the 67th minute when Fornals, through on goal, slipped the ball past Alisson.
Seven minutes later, it looked over for Liverpool when Zouma headed in a corner from the near post.
Substitue Divock Origi gave Liverpool a lifeline with seven minutes left on the clock, but West Ham did not concede another one as they took the three points.
David Moyes’ side are third in the table, level on 23 points with second-place Manchester City and three points behind leaders Chelsea. Liverpool have dropped to fourth on 22 points.
