DIOGO Jota scored twice on Saturday as Liverpool scored four goals in two consecutive Premier League matches.
The Reds, who beat Arsenal 4-0 last weekend, thrashed Southampton by the same scoreline at Anfield to move up to second in the Premier League, one point behind leaders Chelsea.
An attack-minded Southampton side were punished early on, with Andrew Robertson crossing for Diego Jota to poke in after just two minutes.
The second goal arrived 30 minutes later when the unmarked Jota completed his brace by tapping in from Mohamed Salah’s square ball.
The two goals took Liverpool to 700 goals scored since Jurgen Klopp arrived at Anfield.
They have also become the first top-flight team in English football to score at least twice in 17 straight matches in all competitions since Sunderland in 1927.
It was soon 3-0, when Southampton failed to clear their lines properly and Thiago Alcantara hit a deflected shot for his second goal in two games.
Liverpool made it 4-0 seven minutes into the second half, with centre-back Virgil van Dijk scoring from a corner.
In other Premier League fixtures on Saturday, Crystal Palace lost 2-1 at home to Aston Villa to hand Steven Gerrard his second straight win, while Norwich City and Wolverhampton Wanderers played out a goalless draw.
Eberechi Eze, the midfielder with Nigerian roots, continued his return to full fitness by playing the final 30 minutes for Palace, while Michael Olise was in the starting line-up.
Matt Targett and John McGinn scored Villa’s goals, while Marc Guehi pulled one back for the hosts.
