MANCHESTER United will host Aston Villa in the highest-profile FA Cup third-round tie according to the draw, which was made on Monday night.

The Villans defeated United at Old Trafford in the Premier League earlier this season and will be visiting Old Trafford with former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard in charge.

Other big Premier League clubs were drawn against lower league sides, with last season’s runners-up Chelsea to face fifth-tier National League leaders Chesterfield, Liverpool to host third-tier League One side Shrewsbury and Manchester City to visit Swindon Town.

The other all-Premier League ties will see West Ham host Leeds United and holders Leicester City welcome Watford.

The latter is a battle of Super Eagles stars, with potentially five Nigerians involved.

Leicester City could call on Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ademola Lookman, while Watford could feature William Troost-Ekong and Emmanuel Dennis, with Oghenekaro Etebo unlikely to have recovered before the early January clash.

Arsenal are away to Championship side Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur host Morecambe, while Semi Ajayi’s West Brom are home to Brighton.

The third round fixtures will be played between 7 and 10 January 2022.
