Hamilton makes Formula 1 history, supports #EndSARS campaign

BRITISH driver Lewis Hamilton on Sunday set the record for the Formula 1 wins when he finished first in the Portuguese Grand Prix.

After starting in pole position, Hamilton dropped to third, but the multiple world champion went on to win the Portuguese Grand Prix by more than 25 seconds. 

With Sunday’s win, Hamilton now has the outright record of 92 Formula 1 wins, overtaking German legend Michael Schumacher’s total of 91.

Hamilton (Mercedes) beat Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes) to second place, while Max Verstappen (Red Bull) completed the podium.Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) came fourth, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri) fifth, Carlos Sainz (McLaren) sixth. Sergio Perez (Racing Point), Esteban Ocon (Renault), Daniel Ricciardo (Renault), and Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) completed the leading 10 positions.

Just before the race, Hamilton showed his support for Nigerians’ fight against police brutality, tweeting: “We all have a responsibility to educate ourselves and raise awareness of the tragedies happening in the world around us and take action where we can. 

“The recent events in Nigeria are a human rights crisis. Hit the link to find out more #EndSARS.”

He included in the post a photograph of himself wearing an #EndSARS T-shirt.
