THE Super Eagles are planning to enhance their preparation for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with a club friendly.
The team’s players are expected to start arriving in their Abuja camp on Wednesday to begin training for the tournament.
They will then leave for Cameroon on 5 January, six days before their opening match against Egypt in Garoua.
The three-time African champions will then play top flight champions Coton Sport, according to an official of the Cameroonian club.
Coton Sport’s director of communications Saliou Amadou told Cameroonian outlet Sportsglitz that the club received a proposal from the Nigeria Football Federation for the friendly.
The NFF is yet to announce any friendly games for the Super Eagles, although interim head coach Austin Eguavoen said they would arrange warm-up games before the AFCON kicks off on 9 January.
Amadou did not however confirm if Cotton Sport, who are based in Garoua, accepted the NFF’s proposal.
The Super Eagles will be based in the northern city of Garoua for their group games, and Coton Sport will make the perfect friendly opponents.
Although founded only 35 years ago, Coton Sport are Cameroon’s most successful club with 16 Elite One (top league) titles, six more than the next club on the list, Canon Yaounde.
Coton Sport also reached the CAF Champions League final in 2008 and the CAF Cup final in 2003.
The Super Eagles will face Egypt, Guinea Bissau and Sudan in the AFCON group phase.
