WORLD 100m men’s champion Christian Coleman has been banned by World Athletics after missing three drugs tests, according to the BBC.
The American, 24, will serve a two-year ban and will miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan next year if he fails in an appeal.
Coleman, who won the gold medal in the men’s 100m at the World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar in 2019, is allowed to file an appeal with the sport’s highest adjudicator, the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
He has 30 days to file his appeal. Coleman was first provisionally suspended in June after missing his third test in December 2019.
His first missed test was on January 16, 2019, before missing another one three months later.
Testers also did not know his whereabouts last December.
However, investigators insist there was no definite evidence that Coleman has ever taken banned substances.
Missed tests are viewed as a serious offence in the world of athletics, and athletes have to provide their schedule for the authorities who can make unannounced appearances to conduct tests.
