ROBERT Lewandowski has been voted the best men’s footballer in the world for the second year running.

The Poland and Bayern Munich striker won the 2021 The Best FIFA Men’s Player award ahead of Argentina’s Lionel Messi and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, who is currently at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon with his national team.

Lewandowski, 33, has become the first player to win The Best FIFA Men’s Player award in back-to-back years since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2016 and 17.

The Bayern Munich star was widely expected to win the Ballon d’Or for 2021, but he was beaten to it by Messi, who has won both awards more than any player in history.

“It is a great honor and pleasure to receive the title of FIFA The Best Men’s Player,” Lewandowski tweeted moments after receiving his award.”Thank you for your votes and your support.”

Portugal and Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo was given a special recognition award for becoming the top scorer in the history of men’s international football in 2021.

The 36-year-old has scored 115 goals for Portugal, beating Iran legend Ali Daei’s previous world record of 109 international goals.

Barcelona and Spain forward Alexia Putellas won The Best Women’s Player award, adding it to the 2021 Women’s Ballon d’Or she won in December.

Chelsea managers won the two awards for coaches, with Thomas Tuchel claiming the men’s award and Emma Hayes the women’s prize.

Chile and Lyon goalkeeper Christiane Endler was named The Best Women’s Goalkeeper, while Edouard Mendy of Senegal and Chelsea won the men’s version.

The FIFA #Puskás Award went to Erik Lamela for his sensational goal for Tottenham Hotspur against bitter rivals Arsenal, an audacious Rabona flick.
