TIMETABLE:
Dec 5 – PROTEST IN FRANKFURT
Dec 10 – MARCH TO BERLIN
NIGERIANS and Africans in the Rhein-Main area of Germany, under the auspices of The Concerned Panafricanists, will in Saturday, December 5, converge in Frankfurt to publicly air their grievances over what they perceived and described as “the decadence, the corruption, the brutality, the impunity and the underdevelopment of the Nigerian State.”
In a statement, the convener Che Chukwumerije, said, Nigerians “will thereby demonstrate their solidarity with the protesting youths in Nigeria whose spontaneous demonstrations against police brutality, and demand for a better Nigeria, were brutality crushed by Nigeria’s Military force in October, 2020.”
The Frankfurt Demonstration on 5th December, hinted the poet and culture activist, “begins with a rally and declaration at the Kaisersack (across from Hauptbahnhof), followed by a march to Rossmarkt in the heart of the City, where Demands and Resolutions will be aired to the public and the international media, with the participation of concerned Africans and German politicians.”
Chukwumerije continued, “Frankfurt’s location as the seat of the Nigerian Consulate and as the financial and transit center of Europe, and as such an incisive hub in economic neo-imperialism, an arm of colonial continuity, makes it a perfect location for the prelude to the March-To-Berlin.”
The statement read further,
“MARCH TO BERLIN“
On 10th December, 2020, (INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS DAY), Nigerians from all across Germany, under the auspices of a broad coalition of progressive Nigerian Organisations in the country, led by Pay Day Africa International, will converge in Berlin to register their protest in very strong terms to the Nigeria Government through her Embassy in Berlin and expose the decadence of the Nigeria State.
According to Peter Donatus of Pay Day Africa International, coordinator of the March-To-Berlin:
“The Berlin march on 10. Dec begins with a rally at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, where a Delegation will present resolutions and demands to the Nigerian President via his Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany.
The march continues to the Office of the German Federal Chancellor (Bundeskanzleramt).”
“Berlin’s infamous history as the venue, in 1884/5, of the arbitrary and forced creation of modern Africa’s foundational geopolitical units makes it a magnet for the airing of all Africans’ grievances and accusations about the consequences of these volatile and Weak African States today and Germany’s role in colonial continuity.
“Furthermore, in both cities, the German-Nigerians will air their grievances against the poor service, unprofessional conduct and corrupt practices of the Nigerian missions in Berlin and Frankfurt, as exemplified by the Sex-For-Passport-Scandal currently rocking the Nigerian Embassy.
“#AfricaIsBleeding under the weight of the collusion of internal and external networks of oppression and exploitation: Nigeria is a perfect example. The 6th largest producer of crude oil globally. A population of 200 million people. Highest GDP in Africa ($445b). Foreign Trade 33%. But: Unemployment 27.1%. Poverty rate 40%. Adult Literacy 62%. Nr. 13th on the Failed State rankings. 3rd most terrorized nation on Global Terrorism ranking. Boko Haram. Terrorist Fulani Herdsmen. Police Brutality. 146/180 on Corruption Perceptions index. Highest PM10 (air pollution) levels in the world. 108/128 on Rule of Law.
“#AfricaIsBleeding: Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Congo, Cote d’Ivoire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Guinea, Libya, Mali, Nigeria, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Tunisia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, to name but a few.
“Germany is braced for a December of multiple protests by Nigerians, in solidarity with the #EndSARS protests and #RestructureNigeria spirit now alive in Nigeria.
“The EndSARS protests in Nigeria demonstrate the first time in modern Sub-Saharan Africa‘s history that millions of youths have spontaneously arisen to demand for change in an African country. Although the protests were crushed with Nigerian military might, the agitation for change in Nigeria and Africa has developed a new urgency, with Nigerians and Africans both on the continent and in the Diaspora joining the chorus and diplomatic pressure calling for Reform and Development.”
