Super Eagles sail back to Lagos as Iwobi awaits result of second Covid-19 test

THE Super Eagles have arrived back in Lagos after their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Benin Republic in Porto Novo.

The three-time African champions defeated the Squirrels 1-0 on Saturday with an injury time goal by Paul Onuachu to end Benin’s proud home record of eight years without defeat.

The Nigerian contingent left Cotonou, Benin Republic by a fleet of speed boats at around 12.30pm on Sunday and arrived at the Falomo jetty in Lagos at around 4pm after a stopover and lunch at the Ilashe beach resorts.

The players apparently enjoyed the boat trip as they played music and danced on board to celebrate their qualification for next year’s AFCON billed for Cameroon.

They will face Lesotho in Lagos on Tuesday to wrap up the qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile, Alex Iwobi is expecting the result of his second Covid-19 test after he missed Saturday’s clash.

The Everton star tested positive for the virus when the Eagles players and officials’ samples were collected upon their arrival in Cotonou on Friday.

He was subsequently ruled out of Saturday’s fixture but he could be involved against Lesotho if the second test is negative.
