Aribo in action as Rangers complete historic unbeaten Scottish Premiership season

SUPER Eagles midfielder Joe Aribo was in action on Saturday as Rangers made Scottish Premiership history.

The Nigeria international was deployed as an emergency left-back and he played an important part as the Glasgow giants defeated Aberdeen 4-0 at Ibrox Stadium.

Joe Lewis scored an own goal, Kemar Roofe scored twice, while veteran striker Jermain Defoe scored the fourth goal to confirm Rangers’ unbeaten status.

The champions, managed by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, ended the campaign with 102 points from 38 matches: 32 wins and six draws.

Rangers became the second club in Scottish top flight history to go through a whole season unbeaten. The first side to do it was their bitter rivals Celtic.

Aribo, 24, played 30 goals, scored seven goals and made four assists as Rangers ended Celtic’s nine-year stranglehold on the Scottish Premiership title.

His compatriot and Super Eagles teammate Leon Balogun was not in action on Saturday.

However, Balogun did his part in the club’s 55th Scottish Premiership title, the 32-year-old centre-back featuring 19 times and contributing three assists.

Rangers reached 100+ points in a season for the first time in their top-division history and also went unbeaten for the first time since they did it in 1899.
