NPFL: Musa’s Pillars go top as Enyimba bounce back with away win

SUPER Eagles captain Ahmed Musa was in the starting line-up of Kano Pillars as they returned to the top of the Nigeria Professional Football League table on Wednesday.

The Kano side defeatted Nasarawa United 1-0 through Auwalu Ali Mallam’s 25th minute goal.
Pillars overtook Akwa United into first place with 44 points from 23 matches.

Akwa United were not in action, but Kwara United missed the opportunity to get up to second place.

The Ilorin side could only draw 1-1 with Rivers United at home.

Visitors Rivers United struck first two minutes into the second half with Joseph Onoja’s goal and Kwara United responded with the equaliser in the 74th minute.

Kwara United and Rivers United are third and fourth respectively, both with 40 points, the former having a superior goal difference.

Enyimba claimed the only away win of the evening, beating Wikki Tourists 2-1.

The Aba Elephant, who crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup to Egypt’s Pyramids FC over the weekend, shot ahead via Reuben Bala in the 15th minute.

The hosts pulled level 17 minutes later through Stephen Gopey, but Tosin Omoyele fired in the winner in the 67th minute to take Enyimba to seventh in the table.

In other games on Wednesday evening, Dakkada defeated FC IfeanyiUbah 2-1 in Uyo, Warri Wolves beat Lobi Stars 1-0, while MFM continued their good form with a 0-0 draw away to Sunshine Stars.
