DEAN Henderson has pulled out of England’s European Championship squad as a result of injury.

The Manchester United goalkeeper was on the bench in the Three Lions’ 1-0 victory over Croatia in their opening game at Wembley on Sunday.

Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has replaced Henderson in the squad.

Henderson had to withdraw with a hip issue that would continue to limit his involvement in training throughout the
tournament, the England team explained in an official statement on Tuesday.

UEFA regulations for the tournament allow squads to replace goalkeepers on medical grounds at any stage.

Henderson will return to Manchester United for further assessment and rehabilitation ahead of the 2021-22 season.

The 24-year-old Henderson emerged as Manchester United’s first choice goalkeeper last season after spending the previous campaign on loan at Sheffield United, where incidentally Ramsdale is now No.1.

Ramsdale was originally a member of England’s pre-tournament group of 33 players in Middlesbrough and played for England at this year’s UEFA U-21 EURO in Slovenia in March.
