INDOMITABLE Lionesses head coach Gabriel Zabo has invited 30 players to the camp of the Cameroon team in preparation for the Dr Aisha Buhari Invitational Tournament.
The six-nation competition is billed for Lagos from 13 September to 21 September.
The Cameroonian ladies will join the women’s national teams of South Africa, Ghana, Morocco, Mali and hosts Nigeria at the prestigious tournament themed Playing for Good.
The Lionesses are one of Africa’s top women’s teams, having been runners-up of the Africa Cup of Nations on four occasions, including the 2016 finals when they hosted and lost to Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
Zabo’s provisional squad is made up of only home-based players, with four goalkeepers, 10 defenders, eight midfielders and eight forwards.
The Lionesses made their debut appearance at the FIFA World Cup finals in Canada in 2015, and were also one of Africa’s representatives at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in France.
They are currently ranked second in Africa (behind the Super Falcons) and 52nd in the world.
