German football legend Gerd Muller dies aged 75

BAYERN Munich and Germany great Gerd Muller has died at the age of 75, his former club have announced.

The legendary striker scored 68 goals in 62 appearances for the old West Germany, including the goal in the 1974 World Cup final against the Netherlands that earned them their second title.

Muller spent 15 years at Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, scoring a record 365 goals in 427 league games and 66 goals in 74 European matches.

His former club Bayern Munich announced the news of his passing on their official Twitter account on Sunday, writing: “Today the world of FC Bayern stands still.

“The German record champions and his entire fan base mourn Gerd Muller, who died early Sunday morning at the age of 75.”
