He said, ‘His Excellency would like to send his condolence on the passing of your mother’
‘Ohhh my God. Me?’
His Excellency. I didn’t even vote for him. I yabbed him. I said his pants were too high up on his waist and I also said, he was too skinny then to be Governor.
I bowed my head and said, ‘Lord, help me thank His Excellency. Tell him I remain very appreciative that he could find time to look for me to send his condolences.‘
Who wouldn’t be touched by this. Not even the hardest critic in the land. From that call, I started looking at His Excellency with a different eye
Then i met Bonu Solomon. Bonu is Special Adviser on Culture and Arts. It’s Makinde Adeniran that took me there. He said, ‘Edgar you should meet this chap. He loves the Arts and he is very supportive.’
I said, ‘Chief Bonu I want to celebrate Lateef Jakande. It will be a private and exclusive production, strictly for the Lagos State Exco and other prominent leaders of the state firstly before I take it to the public.‘
He looked at me and said he’ll discuss with His Excellency and i liked him. He was sincere, passionate and straightforward
Three months after, he calls and says, ‘Oga has approved!’ I hug him and promised to marry someone from Badagry his town to bring home more development
Then he called and said His Excellency will be at premiere of Awo. Then Ladi Soyode, my Co-Executive Producer and fire-from-behind called and said”
‘Edgar, His Excellency has confirmed.’
