ORGANISERS of the the Lagos International Poetry Festival (LIPFest) have announced October 21 – 24 as date for the 2021 edition.
Dotting on the theme, Ancestral Imaginings, the edition will hold in hybrid format, which means both live and virtually. All the Live events will adhere to Covid-19 protocols.
The three-day festival will feature a pool of writers and thinkers, drawn from across generations in conversations and performances on a range of themes around the role of inter-generational support systems in building stronger post-pandemic societies.
In a statement last week, the organisers said this year’s edition, “leans into the wisdom and vision of the old and the young, to guide us through the rubble of a pandemic. A generational journey aided by generational memory”.
With guests expected from 15 countries, the festival will open with a cocktail on October 21; and will have Yusef Komunyakaa deliver a keynote, that would then lead to seven panel conversations, two masterclasses, including one by the dramatist, poet and novelist, Femi Osofisan. There will be a concert headadlined by Saul Williams.
A new addition this year is the slam competition in which the winner will take home N1million.
The festival’s annual party titled Poetry After Dark, featuring poetry readings and music will wrap up the feast.
