Is this my baby?

I once had a casual unprotected sex with a lady I met while travelling to another state in the country. A few months later, she called me with the claim that I am the owner of her four months pregnancy. Kindly let me know how to confirm that the baby is mine.

The only authentic way of knowing if you are the genuine father of the baby is for you to wait until the baby is delivered. This is when you can carry out a DNA Paternity Test at any of the Paternity Laboratories nearest to you.

Can I try contact lens?

I have been using a pair of corrective glasses for the past twenty years and I am now getting tired of wearing them. A friend suggested I tried contact lenses but I am afraid of the likely negative effects. Kindly assist me.

Although there has been a lot of improvements in the use of contact lens since it first came into vogue, there are a still some degree of negative effects in its use especially when not used correctly. The first issue with contact lens is that of inconvenience of use. Fortunately, we now have very soft and effective contact lens in the market which you can use very conveniently. Most of the other complications are due to poor hygiene and contact lens maintenance. People who wear lenses often don’t clean or disinfect them according to their optician’s advice, or do not have recommended annual eye checks. Once you can take care of these requirements, you have nothing to worry about.

Fear of Caesarean Section

I am due to deliver my first baby in a few months’ time and my doctors have suggested a Caesarean Section operation because of the baby’s position. I am really terrified of an operation and will do everything possible to avoid it. Your kind advice will be appreciated.

Caesarean Sections are usually prescribed when normal delivery will expose both the mother and baby to some degree of risk. When carried out by expert hands, the procedure is very safe and there is little or nothing to fear. However, since the reason for the CS is your baby’s current position, the baby could still change to a position where natural delivery may be possible in a few weeks time. In this wise, a repeat Pelvic Scan should still be carried out before the time of the planned surgery.

Are sex toys safe?

I am a single mother who is not interested in any relationship for now. In order to handle my sexual urges, some of my friends have asked me to try some sex toys which are shaped in the form of a penis to relieve myself.  However, I am scared. I want to know if such devices are safe and if it is okay for me to try them

— Queen (by SMS)

Even though some of the Sex Toys in the market have been certified to be safe by their manufacturers, the decision to use such devices has to be weighed against a number of other issues. When sex toys are shared, they can transmit infections if not properly cleaned. Other issues include your religious views on masturbation, emotional maturity as well as the possibilities of an addiction to masturbation in place of a real relationship. Once you have carefully weighed these points, you can then take your position on whether or not to use the sex toys.

I fart too much

I am a married lady of 40 years old. I recently moved with my husband to another part of the country where I had to make a few changes in our diet due to the absence of some of our usual ingredients.  Since then, I noticed that I fart a lot. Even though the fart is not that smelly, the accompanying noise is embarrassing. Could this be due to the recent change of diet since my husband who eats the same food with me does not fart that much?

Whether they’re loud or silent, stinky, or odourless, everyone farts.  The average person farts anywhere from 5 to 15 times per day. Farting is a normal part of digestion that reflects the activity of the bacteria in your gut. You might also notice that you fart more when you eat certain foods that are more difficult to digest, such as beans or raw vegetables. While farting every day is normal, farting all the time is not. Excessive farting, also called flatulence, can make you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. It might also be a sign of a health problem. You have excessive flatulence if you fart more than 20 times per day. As you suggested, the change of diet could be responsible since some species of yoghurt, beans, melons, groundnuts as well as fats and oils have been incriminated with excessive farting. The fact that your husband is not as affected as you are could be due to the simple reason that both of you can react differently to the same diets. However, if after adjusting your diet the farting is still excessive, you may need to see your doctor who will carry out some tests on you including a stool examination in order to unravel the mystery.
