VICTOR Osimhen has sent a short but strong message to racist football fans after Napoli’s 2-1 Serie A win over Fiorentina on Sunday night.
The Nigerian and his black teammates were the subjects of racist abuse from Fiorentina fans at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
Osimhen, Senegalese defender Khalidou Koulibaly and Cameroonian midfielder Frank Zambo Anguissa were all subjected to racist chants during the match.
According to reports in Italy, it was Koulibaly who first heard the chants and reported to match officials, which prompted Fiorentina director Joe Barone to apologise to the three Africans.
The chants continued even through the post-match interviews and Osimhen felt strongly about it enough to address it on social media afterwards.
“Speak to your kids, your parents, make them understand how disgusting it is to hate an individual because of the color of their skin. NO TO RACISM,” the 22-year-old tweeted.
Osimhen, Koulibaly and Zambo Anguissa have been instrumental in Napoli’s perfect start to the Serie A season.
While the Nigerian has scored four goals in six league matches, the Senegalese has captained the team and been a rock in central defence, and the Cameroonian has been excellent in midfield.
Napoli have won all their seven Serie A fixtures this season to stay on top of the table.
They are the only side in the top five leagues of Europe still with a 100 per cent record this season.
