THE Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Olusegun Dawodu, has commended the youths that have ensured that the wheel of development in the state never stops, urging them to continue to play a positive role in ensuring that the state attains the Greater Lagos Dream.

In a statement, today, to mark the National Youth Day, Dawodu said November 1 was recently declared as National Youth Day by President Muhammadu Buhari to draw attention and find solutions to issues that affect the Nigerian youth.

According to the commissioner, youth remains a major force in building a stronger country despite the devastating effects of the Covid19 pandemic.

“Youths remain a major force in the struggle to build a better future for our nation. The COVID-19 pandemic has greatly impacted and affected their dream in a way they never expected. Thus, it is important for every youth minded adult to work towards providing inclusive support mechanisms that ensure that young Nigerian are actively engaged, empowered and enabled to achieve their desired goals.”

Dawodu noted that young Nigerians have the creativity, potential and capacity to make change happen, for themselves, for their communities, and for the rest of the world hence the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will continue to ensure that a conducive and enabling environment is created for youths to thrive.

“The present administration, driven by our able Mr. Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu will continue to provide the avenue for the engagement of youth in the State, and provide opportunities for them to build solid networks for peace building and prevention of conflict or violence. Our commitment to continue to support our Youth in achieving their dream is resolute, and a path that we do not wish to depart from.”

The commissioner noted that the various youth educational and leadership training programmes such as the transformational leadership  programme, the 4th edition of IBILE Youth Academy, the Youth Police Dialogue session, among others are geared towards ensuring that the teeming youth population in the State are properly engaged.

“As we commemorate this year’s National Youth Day, I wish to pay tribute to all the young people who played significant roles in ensuring that Lagos remains the centre of excellence as we jointly follow the Greater Lagos Dream of Mr. Governor to make the state Africa’s model smart city.  The role you play individually and collectively, towards this dream, is highly appreciated.”
