Pan-African Writers Association stages ‘International ‘Read-to-Me’ Day, March 19

THE Pan-African Writers Association, PAWA headquarters in Accra Ghana has announced a programme for the International ‘Read-to-Me- Day, which holds March 19 via the virtual platforms.

Secretary-General to the PAWA, Dr Wale Okediran, medical doctor and writer, said the event is part of the PAWA Literary Series, and will feature a panel discussion on ‘The Reading Culture in Africa.’

Speakers:

  1. ZAMDA RAMADHANI GEUZA (Tanzania) teaches communication and publishing at UDSM. She is currently doing a PhD on feminist publishing and, is interested in how women have been using their oral literature (story narration) to promote reading culture and the various reading campaigns by Tanzanian women.
  1. OSWALD OKAITEI, a poet is director of Ghana Reads Initiative.
  1. ASHRAF ABOUL-YASHID (Egypt) is a poet, journalist and former President of the Arab Journalists Association
  1. THERESE KAROUE (Togo) is a lecturer in Humanities at the University of Togo

5. CONSTANCE van NIEKERK is an author, an educator, a poet, a freelance writer, news editor and podcaster living in South Africa. She is the author of Echoes of My Heart and has contributed to various poetry anthologies. She has been published in various news platforms including The Herald (Zimbabwe) and The Southern Times (Namibia). Constance is passionate about social issues that affect Africans. She is the founder of Shekhinah Multimedia & Advertising Agency.

6. WALE OKEDIRAN (Nigeria), author of several novels, former Secretary-General and later, president of Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA, is the host and moderator of the session.
