ACCORDING to the schedule of events and timetable released by the APC presidential campaign council, the All Progressives Congress will hold its presidential rally on January 30, 2023, a Monday that is typically observed as a sit-at-home day in the South-East, particularly in Anambra State.

According to the PCC’s updated schedule, its campaign will kick off with a rally in Jos, Plateau State, and will continue with a series of rallies on November 19, 21, 24, 26, 29, and 30 in Delta, Imo, Adamawa, Ogun, Enugu, and Sokoto respectively.

The sit-at-home order across the South-East was a protest against the detention of its Indigenous People of Biafra’s (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, however, despite its cancellation,, residents of the area continue to observe it every Monday by remaining inside while banks, markets, motor parks, schools, filling stations, and other public establishments remain closed.

Okelo Madukaife, the APC’s publicity secretary in Anambra, did not reply to messages left for him on his WhatsApp number, thus he could not be reached for comment regarding the danger the schedule would present in the state.

However, one of the governor of Kaduna State’s sons, Bashir El-Rufai, commended the APC’s action and called Bola Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, for taking such a bold step .

El-Rufai said on his Twitter page that the action demonstrated that no “terrorist” organization could declare a territory ungoverned by the state’s machinery while Tinubu was in office.

“The former governor of Lagos State, national leader of the APC, and presidential candidate for the ruling APC, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, will be holding a presidential campaign event in Anambra State on a Monday.

“The decision by the former governor of Lagos State to hold a presidential campaign event in Anambra State on a Monday, despite the sit-at-home order in the southeastern part of the country is a bold move, it shows that under Bola Tinubu’s administration, no terrorist group can declare a region ungovernable to the apparatus of the state,” he said.
