LESS than 72 hours to the general elections, the Department of State Services (DSS) has uncovered criminal hideouts and recovered dangerous weapons in various places across the country, including a property along the airport road in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano state.

The DSS Public Relations Officer, Dr Peter Afunanya, acknowledged this in a statement yesterday, debunking charges that the agency’s operations in Kano State were directed at a political party.

Among the items discovered from the alleged property in Kano State are a rifle, daggers, swords, and jack-knives.

Similarly, the DSS apprehended alleged gun runners in Kaduna and Zamfara states, including Aliyu Yahaya, who runs guns for suspected bandit Kachalla Damina in the Dansadau area of Zamfara State. Among the weapons discovered were RPMG rifles and ammunition caches.

They also apprehended one Fajuwon Isaac in Delta State and recovered about 4500 rounds of pump action rifle ammunition, among other weapons, while in Anambra State, four suspects were apprehended in possession of one AK-47 and about 4000 rounds of AK-47 ammunition.

While assuring Nigerians of safety before, during, and after the elections, the DSS urged voters to uphold law and order.
