KELECHI Iheanacho came off the bench to score for Leicester City tonight, but they were still beaten 2-1 at home by Blackburn Rovers in their FA Cup fifth round clash.
The Nigeria international continued his remarkable run in the competition, netting his 18th goal in 24 games.
No player has scored as many goals in the FA Cup as Iheanacho since he made his debut in the competition with Manchester City in 2016.
Second-tier Blackburn Rovers raced to a 2-0 lead at the King Power Stadium tonight through Tyrhys Dolan in the 33rd minute and Sammie Szmodics seven minutes after the break.
The visitors had several chances to extend their lead but they missed them all after thoroughly outplaying their top flight hosts.
Iheanacho was then brought on in the 58th minute and he struck from close range nine minutes after to take his FA Cup tally this season to three goals in three games.
Despite more attacking substitutions by Brendan Rodgers, Leicester City failed to find the equaliser and the 2021 FA Cup winners were sent packing, with Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi an unused substitute.
In other FA Cup fifth round clashes tonight, Manchester City eased past Bristol City 3-0, Fulham overcame Leeds United 2-0 and Stoke City lost 1-0 at home to Brighton.
Phil Foden scored twice and Kevin De Bruyne added a late goal as Manchester City ended second-tier Bristol City’s 12-match unbeaten run in all competitions, while Joao Palhinha and Manor Solomon sent Fulham through to the quarter-finals.
