CLUBS in the English Premier League will cease to feature betting outfits as front-of-shirt sponsors in three years’ time.
The clubs reached an agreement today to ban gambling sponsors on the front of their shirts from the start of the 2026/2027 season.
Currently, eight of the 20 clubs in the league have betting companies as their major shirt partners, including West Ham United, Newcastle United and Brentford.
The league said today that the clubs had taken the measure ‘voluntarily in order to reduce gambling advertising’.
The current value of the deals with gambling outfits for the EPL clubs is estimated at £60 million a year.
Gambling brands will however still be able to be displayed in other areas, including on shirt sleeves and pitchside hoardings.
“The announcement follows an extensive consultation involving the League, its clubs and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the government’s ongoing review of current gambling legislation,” the Premier League said in a statement today.
“The Premier League is also working with other sports on the development of a new code for responsible gambling sponsorship. To assist clubs with their transition away from shirt-front gambling sponsorship, the collective agreement will begin at the end of the 2025-26 season.”
