A Walk for the Book

By Betty Abah

IT was the gathering of so many stakeholder– avid book lovers, writers, publishers, book promoters and others drawn from across the state and beyond. The large crowd took an enthusiastic walk from the Manufacturers House (MAN House) at Awolowo Road to Alausa Secretariat, the seat of governance in Lagos.

Eminent and I must add, long-term reading culture advocate, publisher and coordinator, Mr. Richard Mammah, @rmammah, presented the document ‘The Lagos Book Charter: Suggestions for Improving the Reading Culture in Lagos State’ to the Permanent Secretary, Office of the Special Adviser on Education for onward transmission to the Governor and Speaker). The rally also made a brief stopover at the facade of the Governor’s office around the corner.

So good catching up with so many friends on the books and arts frontiers. The walk and general idea is a much-needed push for a sleepwalking national reading culture.

Thanks, Uncle Richie and team! 👌
