Nigerian leaders must lead in sacrificing for a better Nigeria – Peter Obi

THE Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerian leaders at all levels of government to set an example by making sacrifices for a better Nigeria.

He was responding to a viral video that reportedly showed President Bola Tinubu arriving in Lagos on Tuesday from London with roughly 120-convoy cars.

Obi maintained that the size and duration of an official motorcade cannot be used to gauge the caliber of leadership. He said that a group of media ambushed him to ask him to comment on the footage, which he stated today that he had not personally seen, at an event in Anambra State.

He asserts that people who serve in Nigeria today must do it wisely and with a spirit of selfless dedication.

He said the behaviour of the leaders, their character, and attitude must reflect the solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians “because our people are suffering in this country, and we must have that at the back of our minds.”

While urging the people to bear the present hardship for a better tomorrow patiently, the former Anambra State governor called on the leaders to live more frugally and act more responsibly for a better society.

“We must begin to drastically cut the cost of governance, and invest in different aspects of human development that will improve the lives of our people,” Obi added.

“I was unexpectedly approached by a group of media yesterday at the final memorial ceremony for the Late Archbishop Maxwell Anikwenwa in Awka, who wanted me to speak on the life of the late clergyman. They immediately asked my opinion on a video they said was going viral online”.

When Tinubu arrived back in Lagos from London on Tuesday, APC leaders and supporters greeted him at the airport, including Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, Femi Gbajabiamila, the chief of staff to the president, Olukayode Egbetokun, the acting inspector general of police, Nuhu Ribadu, and senators and representatives from Lagos State.

The President’s convoy then traveled from Ikeja to Bourdillon, his private mansion in Ikoyi.
