THE Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu this evening which would be the second meeting in the first 24 hours of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) indefinite strike.
A similar meeting took place yesterday night between Abbas and the President in an attempt to end the strike .
The meeting’s minutes were made public yesterday night hours after the resident doctors declared a “total and indefinite strike action”.
Earlier in the week, the Speaker met with the national leadership of the NARD during which he had passionately implored the doctors to suspend their planned strike.
He asked for their patience and understanding, and requested a two-week interval to resolve the issues brought by the association.
Abbas also promised to meet with Tinubu within 24 hours to further examine the situation.
The meeting took place yesterday night, when the Speaker reportedly briefed the President about the parliamentary official’s previous discussion with the NARD leadership.
He was believed to have urged the President to intervene and address the resident doctors’ concerns, emphasizing the importance of their role in the country’s healthcare system.
