FRONTLINE advocates for freedom of artistic freedom, Unchained Vibes Africa, UVA will on Saturday, Oct 28, stage the maiden edition of its latest initiative tagged, Freedom Vibes 7.0 Naija Day.
Kicking off at 3pm at the Freedom Park, Broad Street, Lagos Island, the event is the latest episode of the UVA flagship project – the Freedom Vibes Series.
“Naija Day is aimed at promoting national unity and to celebrate the cultural diversity of Nigeria. The event will help to raise awareness about the dangers of ethnic and religious politics, contribute to the healing process after one of the most divisive elections in the annals of the country and help in rebuilding and rekindling mutual trust and hope for a better Nigeria,” stated UVA’s programme directorate in a public statement.
The statement continues, “The event will feature a medley of Nigeria’s multiculturalism through contemporary cultural displays by different troupes like – the legendary Igbabonaremhin Acrobatic Dance of the Esan people, Idoma Sabada Dance, Efik Ekombi Dance, the Anioma Cultural Group and the Crown Troupe of Africa. All these to be heralded by a procession within the neighbourhood of event venue, Freedom Park, Lagos.”
Speakers at the event include Nollywood actor Jude Orhorha, the Chair of Rastafari community in Nigeria Myke Pam, DJ Bola Browne, Gideon Ekanem, Ehi Omokhuale, Edaoto Agbeniyi, Jahman Anikulapo, among others.
The event’s format is designed to celebrate the richness of Nigeria’s diverse cultural heritage, the importance of intercultural understanding and national unity. There will be a spotlight on contemporary arts and cultural expressions from minority ethnic groups with less visibility at national gatherings.
“Naija Day will be rounded off with a concert headlined by ARA (Nigeria’s iconic and internationally acclaimed female talking drummer), Hip-hop music icon Eedris Abdulkareem, Jude Chukwuka (Marlian Godfather), Abbey Trombone and Nuel Scroll. There will be a special appearance by Anselm Ramachar a.k.a Ayantunde (the German percussionist with dexterity in Yoruba Bata drumming).
