THE Rivers State House of Assembly has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of irregularities in his appointments.
The Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, made the accusation against the governor in session today at the Assembly Quarters in Port Harcourt, the state capital.
Following their last meeting, the lawmakers convened for an unplanned session, during which they overruled the governor and passed four bills.
The Majority Leader of the House, Major Jack, today brought the Speaker’s attention to the governor’s recent selections.
The appointments are to lead three government parastatals: the Local Government Service Commission, the Bureau of Public Procurement, and the New City Development Authority.
The Speaker clarified that the process of appointment was specified in the law, and there is no provision for acting chairmen.
The House began a debate, with some lawmakers questioning the New City Development Authority’s legal existence.
The Speaker accused the governor of tyranny, even as the House resolved to send him a letter warning him against his acts.
The latest events in the Assembly have fueled debate about whether the House will revive its aborted impeachment procedures against the governor.
