PHIL Foden was the star man in the English Premier League tonight after scoring a hat-trick in Manchester City’s 4-1 win over Aston Villa, moments after Arsenal defeated Luton Town 2-0.
England forward Foden bagged the third Premier League hat-trick of his career, netting in the 45th, 62nd and 69th minutes at the Etihad Stadium as City stay in the hunt for a historic fourth straight title.
Foden has scored his third Premier League hat-trick aged just 23; the only players to score more hat-tricks in the competition before turning 24 are Robbie Fowler (7), Michael Owen (7), Harry Kane (6), and Erling Haaland (5), according to Opta statistics.
At the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal eased to victory courtesy of a Martin Odegaard strike in the 24th minute and an own goal by Daiki Hashioka just before half-time.
With the results, Arsenal returned to the top of the table, one point clear of Liverpool, who have a game in hand, with Manchester City third, level on points with Liverpool.
Aston Villa are fourth, two points ahead of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur, while Luton Town are third from bottom, three points from safety.
Liverpool will reclaim top spot tomorrow night if they beat bottom side Sheffield United at Anfield.
In the other Premier League clash tonight, Brentford and Brighton played a 0-0 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium.
