ENYIMBA recorded the biggest win of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) yesterday, thrashing Kano Pillars 5-0 in Aba, while Niger Tornadoes defeated Bendel Insurance in Benin City and Doma United beat Akwa United in Uyo.

Leaders Enugu Rangers kept their place at the top of the standings with a 2-0 win over Sunshine Stars, with Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Bayelsa United and Abia Warriors also securing home victories.

Champions Enyimba were ruthless against the hapless Pillars, with Joseph Atule netting a brace and Chijioke Mbaoma scoring his 13th goal of the season.

The 5-0 bashing is the heaviest defeat Kano Pillars have suffered in the league since they were beaten by the same score in April 2002 by Julius Berger.

With the win, Enyimba’s biggest since a 5-0 victory over Gombe United in May last year, the People’s Elephant rose to second in the NPFL table.

Rangers retained top spot, three points clear of Enyimba, as Kalu Nweke and Ifeanyi Onyebuchi struck in each half against the visitors from Akure, who are 14th in the table.

The most shocking result of the evening was in Benin City where Niger Tornadoes stunned their hosts Bendel Insurance 3-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, where the Benin Arsenal were previously invincible.

The visitors raced to a shock 3-0 lead in the first half through Chidiebere Ernest, Azeez Akintunde and Clinton Jephta before Chukwudi Meze pulled one back for Insurance five minutes from time.

The only draw of the evening was in Lagos where Sporting Lagos played 1-1 with Lobi Stars.

Sporting Lagos are 13th, four points clear of the drop zone, while Lobi Stars are third, three points off top spot.

Bayelsa United beat visiting Heartland 1-0, while 3SC eased past Kwara United 2-0 and Abia Warriors pipped Plateau United 1-0.

Abia Warriors 1-0 Plateau United
Enyimba 5-0 Kano Pillars
