THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended the well-known cross-dresser, Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, for the offenses of currency mutilation and misuse of naira notes.

According to EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, who spoke yesterday, the cross-dresser was taken into custody in Lagos on Wednesday night.

“He (Bobrisky) was detained Wednesday night in Lagos,” the official from the anti-graft agency said.

“He is currently held at our Lagos Office and will face legal charges.”

Bobrisky has been at the center of various controversies, including winning the “Best Dressed Female” Award at a movie premiere on March 25, 2024, a development that stirred displeasure among many in the entertainment industry.

Amid the public outcry, Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, stated that there is no law in Nigeria that mandates the arrest of cross-dressers.

“I have not come across any legislation indicating that cross-dressing is a criminal act in Nigeria,” he mentioned during Channels Television’s Politics Today program on April 2, 2024.

“Let’s be rational; you cannot arrest someone you intend to prosecute without substantial evidence, and thus, cross-dressing is not currently a criminal offense in Nigeria.

“Some individuals involved in cross-dressing face allegations of engaging in other activities, and that’s where the issue arises.

“We need concrete evidence that they are indeed involved in ‘that.’ All such offenses are recognized in Nigeria and are punishable under our laws,” Adejobi emphasized.
