THE Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has cautioned drivers to adhere to speed limits when traveling on the extensive portion of the recently repaired Third Mainland Bridge.
This information was conveyed in a statement released yesterday by the agency’s spokesperson, Adebayo Toafiq.
Toafiq urged motorists to obey all traffic signals and utilize the technological equipment integrated into the traffic system.
The Lagos State Government had announced the scheduled reopening of the Third Mainland Bridge for today, April 4, 2024, as stated by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, in a message on his official platform on Saturday.
The announcement stated, “Dear residents of Lagos, we are delighted to announce that the Third Mainland Bridge will be fully operational on April 4, 2024, following extensive repairs.”
In late March, the National Assembly Joint Committee on Works inspected the repair progress of the bridge and other federal government projects in Lagos.
To ensure the safety of drivers and swift rescue operations on the bridge, LASTMA will deploy personnel, patrol cars, and recovery vehicles on the bridge.
According to Taofiq, “LASTMA has advised motorists to adhere to speed limits while driving on the lengthy section of the recently refurbished Third Mainland Bridge connecting the Mainland and other regions of the state.
“Drivers should be mindful of time and plan their trips in advance to avoid unnecessary speeding on the bridge and other connecting roads throughout the state.
“The agency will increase the deployment of personnel, patrol vehicles, and recovery vehicles to guarantee the safety of drivers and timely rescue efforts on the bridge.”
