The Lagos State Waste Water Management Office, LSWMO, through its general manager Adebola Matanmi has clarified the position of the office on bio-digester as an alternative facility to the wastewater treatment plant in the biodegradation of biological load content in the wastewater.
He stated that their position was in line with the State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017 Part IX.
The general manager also emphasized that the concept was not an approved alternative to a wastewater treatment plant, adding that the pilot scheme, put in place to test the efficacy of the concept, was not approved but a work in progress as the agency engineers and scientists are studying the concept.
He admonished the promoters of the concept to halt installing the facility pending when the agency will clear it for usage or otherwise.
He also requested that the business community be restrained from patronising the installation of the facility in their premises to avoid being caught on the wrong side of the law.
Suggesting that business organisations; hoteliers, estate developers, property and facility managers should approach the office for clearance before installing a wastewater facility.
