Pep Guardiola has said he will leave Manchester City when his contract expires in 2023 and hopes to manage a national team.

“I think I’m going to have to stop. I’m going to have to take a break, see what we’ve done,” Guardiola said.

“Next step will be a national team if there is a possibility.”

The 50-year-old, who joined Man City in 2016, plans to ‘retire’ after seven years in charge of the Premier League club.

Guardiola was speaking at an online event hosted by Brazilian financial services company XP Investimentos and quoted by ESPN Brasil.

“I would like to train a South American (team), European, playing a Copa America, I want to have that experience.” He added.

This news comes on the same day they lost the bid to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham, the England Captain had confirmed he’ll be staying till the end of the summer.

Guardiola has won three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, and four League Cups in a row with City.

Prior to joining Man City, Pep had taken a 12-month break after leaving Barcelona in 2012 before joining Bayern Munich.
