AANTHONY Joshua has held his hand up and admitted to not gettiing things right last night as he was knocked out in the fifth round by Daniel Dubois in the heavyweight title fight at Wembley.
Dubois knocked Joshua down several times before finishing the two-time world champion off with a short right hook to retain his IBF title in front of 96,000 fans.
“We came up short as a team. You know I’m ready to kick off in the ring but I’m going to keep it respectful,” Joshua, 34, told DAZN after the fight, his fourth defeat in 32 professional bouts.
“Before I came here, I always say to myself I’m a fighter for life. You keep rolling the dice. I had a fast and sharp opponent, a lot of mistakes from my end.”
After his stunning win, Dubois told DAZN his next step.
“I’ve only got a few things to say, are you not entertained?!”he told DAZN.
“It’s been a journey and I’m grateful to be in this position. I’m a gladiator, I’m a warrior until the bitter end.
“I want to get to the top of this sport and reach my full potential.
“Behind the scenes, the work with my dad. I’ve been on a rollercoaster run, this is my time, this is my redemption story. I’m not going to stop until I reach my full potential.”
Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, explained why his client lost to Dubois.
“It was a huge right hand AJ shipped in the first round. He never gave up and I’m so proud of him,” Hearn said.
“He hurt Daniel Dubois but he got greedy and got caught again. He couldn’t get up. If we’re going to lose then losing to a British heavyweight makes it better. He’ll need a rest.”
