POLICE operatives in Edo State have successfully rescued a kidnapped victim, recovered a stolen vehicle, and arrested a suspected cultist involved in a shooting incident.

According to a statement issued today by the spokesman of the Edo Police Command, Moses Yamu, operatives of the Ologbo Division rescued Osazee Okungbowa from his abductors at around 5:00 PM on February 8, 2025.

Okungbowa was kidnapped by five armed men on the night of February 7 at his residence in the Power Line area of Owanoba community.

Following his rescue, he received medical attention and was reunited with his family, while authorities continue their efforts to track down the suspects.

In a separate operation, police recovered a stolen vehicle taken from its owner in the Upper Mission Extension area of Benin City.

Officers from the Okuaihe Division pursued the car thieves, who eventually abandoned the vehicle at Iguomon Community along Benin-Agbor Road.

The recovered car was returned to its rightful owner, and investigations to apprehend the culprits are ongoing.

Additionally, a suspected cultist, Kelly Osayawe, was arrested in Benin after shooting a man during a burial procession in the Aduwawa area.

Armed with a locally made pistol loaded with four live cartridges, Osayawe fired shots into the air but struck Nzube Cletus Mbum, who was standing in front of his shop.

The victim sustained injuries to his hand, leg, and back.

Osayawe attempted to flee but was pursued and captured with the help of bystanders.

Authorities have taken him into custody as investigations continue.
