THE Ebonyi State Police Command has launched an investigation into a viral video showing an officer wielding a rifle during an altercation.
The incident, which took place on Saturday, along the busy Enugu-Abakaliki Road in Abakaliki, involved an officer driving a tricycle who got into a dispute with his passengers and brandished his firearm.
In a statement yesterday, the command’s spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, condemned the officer’s actions, identifying him as Inspector Obaji Ikechukwu.
He stated that the officer’s conduct violated the ethics and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the Nigeria Police Force, adding that disciplinary measures have already been set in motion.
Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Uche-Anya, reassured residents that the command maintains a strict stance against indiscipline and unprofessional behavior.
She emphasized that any officer found guilty of misconduct will be held accountable.
