FAVOUR Ofili’s blistering start to the athletics season continued on Saturday as she set another personal record.

The in-form Nigerian sprinter recently broke Blessing Okagbare’s women’s 200m Nigerian record with a 20.96 seconds return, becoming the first Nigerian woman in history to break the 21 seconds barrier.

She followed up this weekend in the United States of America with a new personal best in the 100m, clocking a highly impressive 10.93s to win the LSU Invitational event.

The time makes her the fourth fastest woman in the world this year and she becomes only the fifth Nigerian woman in history to run the 100m under 11 seconds.

It is also the fastest time by an African woman this year.

Ofili’s time, which is legal and not wind-aided, is also the fifth fastest ever in Louisiana State University history, the eighth all-time in United States of America collegiate history, the fifth fastest in African history and the third fastest ever run by a Nigerian woman.

Ofili, 19, got off to a fast start and led all the way to beat Aleia Hobbs to second place (11.11s).

Another Nigerian, Favour Ashe, was also in brilliant form at the event, clocking 9.79s to win his heat on the men’s 100m.

Although the time was wind-aided, it was still impressive from the 20-year-old Nigerian.

At the TTU Corky/Crofoot Shootout in Texas, Rosemary Chukwuma clocked a personal best of 22.78s to win the women’s 200m ahead of Aneesa Scott (23.26s) and Raheema Westfall in 23.31s.

Chukwuma also won the women’s 100m with a time of 11.28s.

Also at the LSU Invitational, Imaobong Nse Uko clocked a season’s best time of 51.66s in the women’s 400m, which is also the fastest by a Nigerian woman this season. Taylor Manson came second in 52.35s.
