SOUTHAMPTON, the club of Super Eagles stars Joe Aribo and Paul Onuachu, have fired their manager Nathan Jones.

The Saints have been struggling for weeks and are stuck in the bottom of the Premier League table.

There had been speculation about Jones’ position for several weeks as Southampton’s form failed to improve, and the final straw was apparently yesterday’s 2-1 home defeat to 10-man Wolves.

“Southampton Football Club can confirm it has parted company with Men’s First Team Manager Nathan Jones,” the Saints announced today on their official website.

“First Team Coaches Chris Cohen and Alan Sheehan have also left the club.

“First Team Lead Coach Rubén Sellés will take charge of training and prepare the team ahead of next weekend’s game against Chelsea.”

Jones joined Southampton from Luton Town in November to replace the sacked Ralph Hasenhuttl, but results got even worse under the 49-year-old Welshman.

In Jones’ eight Premier League games in charge, Southampton won only one, losing the other seven. They scored only six goals and conceded 16.

Onuachu was one of the players brought in to improve the squad for Jones in January, the Nigeria striker switching from Genk for £18.5m.

Aribo joined Southampton from Rangers in the summer before Jones was appointed, but lost his starting spot under the former Luton Town boss.
