THE Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has assured Nigerians that they will not be disenfranchised today.
INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, who made this known in a briefing, said all electorates will be allowed to vote as long as they are on the queue before 2:30pm.
“Voting is going on nationwide. BVAS has been functioning optimally in most parts and we hear less and less complains,” he said.
“Based on the reports we have received across the country, some challenges were identified. Some of which is the inability of our agency to open the polling units by 8:00am.
“Like our policy has always been, any Nigerian on the queue will vote no matter how long it takes. The perennial problem of logistics was one of the factor.
“Another factor is the perennial insecurity in the country. For instance we couldn’t deploy early enough to a part of Shiroro in Niger State.”
Yakubu lamented attacks in parts of the country, adding that the BVAS machines are now the target and not ballot box.
