THE National Association of Nigerian Students has expressed confidence in President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s ability to strengthen the country’s education sector.

Tinubu was declared President-Elect today and granted his Certificate of Return after receiving 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party received 6,984,520. Obi received 6,101,533 votes, while Kwankwaso received 1,496,687 votes in Saturday’s presidential election.

NANS expressed confidence in Tinubu’s ability to turn around the education sector and make education more affordable and accessible in a statement signed and made available journalists by its National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Temitope.

The association also applauded the handling of the just concluded presidential election by the Independent National Election Commission.

The student body lauded President Buhari for not interfering with the electoral process.

The statement read, “As an association, we write to commend the Independent National Electoral Commission for the peaceful conduct of the just-concluded election which saw to the emergence and declaration of the Presidential candidate of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the winner.

“It is also instructive that we commend President Muhammadu Buhari for giving space for a credible electoral process without undue interference. The resolve of the President not to interfere in the activities of INEC has once again strengthened free choice which is one of the major components of democracy. As a country that practices constitutional democracy, the President has set a nice precedent in further giving independence to the electoral umpire.

“As students’ body, we believe in the capacity of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a turnaround and make education more accessible and affordable to the plebeians. However, we join meaningful Nigerians all over to call for calm and ensure that they don’t take part in activities that might jeopardise or truncate the peace we are enjoying.”
