THE governor of Kaduna state, Uba Sani has stated that he took over a significant debt of $587m, N85bn, and 115 contractual obligations from the previous administration of Nasir El-Rufai.
He expressed concern that this debt has significantly impacted the state’s federal allocation.
During a town hall meeting, Governor Sani reiterated his commitment to advancing Kaduna’s development despite the financial challenges.
The meeting was attended by various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, politicians, labor unions, and civil society groups.
The governor, along with his deputy, provided an overview of the state’s finances and highlighted key areas of focus such as security, housing, education, healthcare, and support for small businesses.
The Finance Commissioner explained how federal allocations are used to service the inherited debt, while the Planning Commissioner addressed issues related to abandoned projects by contractors.
Governor Sani assured the public that he would prioritize progress and sustainable development for the state.
