NIGER: Communities deserted as bandits abduct another 35 persons, rustle ‘many cattle’

THERE is no respite yet for the people of Shiroro Local Government Area of the state as bandits continue to operate  in communities constituting the LG, killing and kidnapping with reckless abandon.

In the latest attacks on Chiri Boda and Fuka, two of the communities in Shiroro LG, at least 35 persons were said to have kidnapped with many cattle rustled.

 The attack, which was said to have occurred two days ago, left some injured, while many villagers fled to the forest.

The Chairman, Niger Concern Citizens, Muhammad Wana, made this known in Minna yesterday.

Wana lamented that 10 out of 15 wards in the Shiroro LGA were under the control of bandits.

He said, “The five wards that are not under bandits’ control of bandits – Gusoro Zumba, Bongajiya, Bina, Sheyi lapa and Ubandoma – are mostly occupied by the Internal Displaced Persons seeking refuge.”

According to Wanna  eight of the wards under bandits control were in riverine areas.

He appealed to the Federal Government to come to their aid to enable them return home.

Wana also stressed the need for National Emergency Management Agency to supply the IDPs with necessary support.
