AFTER a recent successful command performance at the historical Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, to mark the 56th birthday anniversary of Governor Sanwo-Olu, the epic musical drama, Obi at’Orogbo, this week, lands in the Lagos riverine town of Epe.
On the special invitation of the Lagos State government, the theatrical showpiece, which celebrates the rich cultural essence of Lagos (Eko), through its exploration of the myths, fables, and glories of Yoruba people, is fast becoming a legacy project for the state of aquatic splendour.
Written and directed by Seun Awobajo for the Footprints of David Art academy, the play was first conceived and premiered in May 2017 to mark the golden anniversary of the creation of Lagos during the Lagos at 50 celebration. The production was endorsed and superintended by the quintessential theatre maker — dramatist, actor, director, critic, and Africa’s first Nobel laureate in Literature, Professor Wole Soyinka, who was grand consultant to the celebration.

Now, the ancient town of Epe will be playing host to the reputable children and youth theatre troupe, Footprints of David Art Academy on August 14. Epe, one of the sub-divisions of the Centre of Excellence, is revered as an important fishing community; uniquely endowed home of abundant riches and fluxing water-bodies. More than the reputations of Epe town, it enjoys cultural splendour and a sight to behold.
