FOUR persons have been killed by gunmen in Gudum Village, Mangu Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to reports from village residents, the attack took place yesterday night.
The assailants’ target was the village’s ward head, whose house was set on fire and his wife and children kept hostage while he fled the scene.
However, the intervention of Operation Safe Haven officers in response to a distress call led the assailants to fleeing the site after killing four persons all of which are male.
In a statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Ber, Governor Caleb Mutfwang denounced the attack and directed security authorities to apprehend the offenders and bring them to justice.
The governor sympathised with the affected families as he described the attack as barbaric and unacceptable where women and children were trapped inside two rooms and were rescued by security personnel.
